House By the Woods

Having a background of trees and no sky was something I was hesitant to try.  I wasn’t sure if the green would look flat or come out blobbish.  Both circumstances would have been undesirable.  Midway through the painting, the trees looked flat and blobbish.  I was ready to give up, but I persevered and got a reasonably woodsy looking mess as a backdrop to this little white house.

I don’t know how many times I’ve felt like giving up on a drawing or painting only to have worked through the mess and come up with good results.  Always stick to your work!

  1. I think it’s a great watercolour and I’m glad you stayed with it. As artists we have to keep trying new things, different ideas, to keep our work fresh and interesting to ourselves and others…
