House on a Hill

I took a different approach to the process of painting this little house peaking its head over a hill.  I wanted a warmer tone throughout (which I failed to do in the right sky), so I painted a nice yellow wash under the grass and threw gold on the trees.

Applying frisket to the yellow wash under the grass gave me over-sized buttercups which do not fall in the season the painting appears to be in, by order of the three yellow trees.  ( I have, however, seen an attractive little maple down the road turning orange, and there are buttercups on the front lawn.)

  1. What a neat little painting! I like how the house truly is looking over the hill. It’s got character. The flowers suit the painting very well, I think.
